The four measurements, 30 seconds each
Standing, on paper: mark both edges of the widest front paw, measure the marks. A credit card is 3.4 in if the tape went missing.
Mid-nap, side sleep: nose to tail base, the way they actually lie. Don't size down — seniors stretch more, not less.
Trunk open, tape from the ground to the lip. One number decides Standard vs XL — 34 inches is the line.
Around the widest chest, just behind the front legs, snug not tight. Weight picks the starting size; girth confirms it.
